How we "do" Anxiety

Anxiety is one of the most common problems that client's come to see me for. The interesting thing about anxiety is that we do it to ourselves! That's right, most people describe anxiety as "it" just happens to them, almost like it's nothing to do with them it's just out there waiting to get them at every opportunity.

Anxiety can plague people in a number of ways. There's social anxiety, performance anxiety, general anxiety, school anxiety, work related anxiety etc. Everyone will do anxiety differently. This is why solution focused hypnotherapy can be so effective. By working out how the individual does their particular process for anxiety we can work on breaking that down and creating a new process. This will start with some psycho-education and then the suggestions for change will be embedded during the trance work.

The good news is that anxiety is not a part of who you are, you can change!

It's amazing how we can learn to "undo" that tangled process of anxiety and simply create new and better ways to deal with all sorts of issues. It may be linked to presentations, a work colleague, children, relationships, phobias etc. Our brains love to pattern match and repeat processes. Whatever the problem you have the ability to change. You haven't always been anxious you weren't born anxious, somewhere along the way you have learnt it and you automatically default to that process each time a particular issue occurs.

Anxiety if left untreated can evolve into much more serious states of mental health such as depression, self harm and suicidal ideation.

We need to keep our brain healthy and pay attention to what works and what doesn't. You would go to a doctor straight away if you had pain elsewhere in your body but often mental health gets neglected as we think we can work it out or it will pass. It's ok to get some help and you will be amazed at how you can adapt and see things differently. So much can change within you even when nothing changes outside of you!

I hope you found this useful.

Take care and I'll be back next month with more information.
