MULTI EYE MOVEMENT INTEGRATION (MEMI)
A guided, eye-movement-based approach that aims to help the brain reprocess distressing memories and reduce their emotional intensity.
What Is Multi Eye Movement Integration (MEMI)
Multi Eye Movement Integration (MEMI) is a therapeutic method that uses structured eye movements and focused attention to support emotional processing.
In practice we will guide your eye movements (in a variety of patterns) while you briefly bring a memory, feeling, or body sensation to mind. The aim is to help your nervous system “update” how the experience is stored, so it feels less overwhelming in the present.
How MEMI Works (In Simple Terms)
-
Dual attention: you keep one foot in the present (following the eye movements) while gently touching into a memory or feeling.
-
Short “sets”: eye movements are done in brief rounds, with check-ins between sets.
-
Tracking change: you notice what shifts—images, emotions, thoughts, and body sensations often change over time.
-
Integration: the session ends by stabilising, grounding, and identifying what you need after processing

What to Expect in a MEMI Session
-
Intake & goals: we will clarify what you want help with and what “better” would look like.
-
Resourcing: you learn grounding skills (breathing, orientation, calming imagery) to help you stay within a manageable range.
-
Target selection: you choose a specific memory, trigger, belief, or body sensation to work on.
-
Eye-movement sets: you follow the practitioner’s guidance while noticing what arises.
-
Check-ins: you pause to report changes (intensity, emotion, body sensations, thoughts).
-
Closure: you finish with stabilisation, and a brief review.
-
Sometimes a short hypnosis session will follow.

Safety, Suitability, and Important Notes For MEMI
MEMI can bring up strong emotions.
The work will be paced, stabilisation prioritised, and we will ensure you have tools to stay grounded.
MEMI is not a substitute for medical care, and it may not be appropriate for everyone.
When MEMI may be unsuitable - seizures, significant eye conditions, dissociation, recent concussion, or any mental health concerns that may require additional support.
Frequently Asked Questions About MEMI
Case Study for MEMI
Client A presented with a longstanding unresolved memory that she had been struggling to shift. This memory continued to evoke strong emotional responses, including feelings of distress, abandonment, and a self-identified victim mentality. These experiences were impacting her confidence, emotional regulation, and overall sense of personal agency.

Across three MEMI sessions, client A demonstrated measurable and meaningful change. She reported a gradual but significant reduction in the emotional intensity associated with the memory, particularly a decrease in fear and emotional reactivity. As the work progressed, client A described feeling more grounded and empowered, with an increased sense of self-awareness and internal safety.

During the final session, a noticeable physical shift was observed. Client A’s posture visibly changed—she appeared more upright, open, and settled in her body. This somatic change reflected the internal shifts she reported, aligning with her increased confidence and emotional resilience.

By the conclusion of the sessions, client A no longer identified with the victim narrative she had previously held.
The memory could be recalled without the same emotional charge, allowing her to engage with her past from a more empowered and neutral perspective.
Overall, MEMI facilitated both emotional and somatic integration, supporting client A in releasing the unresolved memory and fostering lasting personal growth.
